Some people think of Bitachon as a means to an end. They need Parnassah, or a Shidduch, or a cure, or Shalom Bayis, or Nachas from their children, or a reprieve from the IRS, or a new vehicle, or a mortgage payment, or anything else in their life, so they visit the ATM, deposit some Bitachon and hope to withdraw a Yeshua. That is a total mistake and a total mischaracterization of what Bitachon is and what its purpose is. Bitachon is not about getting stuff. Bitachon is about getting closer to Hashem. Bitachon is not about getting to a solution. Bitachon is the solution. Bitachon is not a short-term detail of life. Bitachon is life itself. Bitachon is not just a tool In Olam Hazeh. Bitachon is the key to Olam Haba. Bitachon is not just a lifetime warranty. Bitachon is an eternal guarantee. Bitachon is not a means. Bitachon is an end unto itself. One who lives with Bitachon in this world will continue to live with that Bitachon in the next world, and beyond. *עֽוֹלָמִ֑ים* *סֶּֽלָה* Bitachon in this world is the best investment you can ever make. This is to signify that not only is relying on Hashem a wise thing to do, it is the correct thing to do! What is a practical way to have Bitachon, and to remain B’Menuchas Hanefesh despite this very real challenge?* A: Look backwards! Let’s assume you are already in your home for 10 or 20 years. Every month the mortgage is due. It may even be a challenge each month to pay it. (Many people have this challenge; it’s normal, so don’t feel bad). However, if you are still living in your home, it means that more or less, you have been paying the mortgage month after month for many years already. How did that happen? Oh, “somehow” things worked out. Or, more accurately, Hashem got it done for you last month, and the month before and the month before that, and He has been doing it for many years already. And it’s not just the mortgage. It’s the rent, the utilities, your grocery bill, your tuition, the money to marry off children, and the list goes on and on. Yes, looking forward, it often looks bleak and challenging, and even impossible, yet if you look backward, at how you managed to get here after all these years, you will start realizing that Hashem was always there, always handling things, always looking out for you, always taking care of you. Like a Father takes care of a child; because that’s exactly what it is! כְּ֖גָמֻל עֲלֵ֣י אִמּ֑וֹ (Tehiim 131:2) We are always worried and nervous about one thing or another. We are human. But, try to remember what you were nervous about a year ago, 3 years ago, 5 years ago etc. Most of us cannot even remember, as everything that we worry about, usually gets handled by Hashem. So, a good practical way to live with Bitachon and Menuchas Hanefesh even when you’re in a bind, is to remember that Hashem had your back for the past 20, 30, 40, 50 years….. He’s not going to suddenly be out of options for your current issue! Focus on everything he already handled for you, and don’t sweat the current item. ⁉️*Orchos Bitachon - Q&A for Monday, June 29, 2026*⁉️ *Q: I have built up a business for many years and have managed to keep away debt.However, I have not been putting away towards my retirement.* *I was recently offered a job out of the blue and it is paying a really nice salary to be working in addition to maintaining my current business. If the money I am meant to make is allotted for me from Rosh Hashana and I'm already doing proper Hishtadlus, does working harder at a job I’m resentful at taking really help me? Will I end up with the same money at the end anyway?* A: Great question. You write you “managed to keep away debt”. I would rephrase that as “I have tremendous gratitude to Hashem for keeping me debt-free”. Firstly, while there may be nothing wrong, for most people, to put money away for retirement, there is also nothing wrong with not putting away money for retirement. Hashem gives us what we need today, and He will give us what we need tomorrow, and every day. ברוך ה' יום יום! Bitachon is living today for today, and not worrying about tomorrow. Of course, this will depend on a person’s level, and he/she should discuss with their Rov what the right course of action for them is. That being said, if your current business produces what you need, and you are living with Menuchas Hanefesh, why would you even consider taking another job? Taking another job is extra Hishtadlus that you are not obligated to do, and doing so is not going to increase your income an iota more than what was allotted to you on Rosh Hashana. In fact, doing Hishtadlus beyond what you are obligated to do can be detrimental to you, as when Hashem sees that you are not trusting Him, and you are taking matters into your own hands, He will often say _“OK, you want to handle this on your own, I will take a step back….”_ . Not a good idea. So long as you are doing some level of Hishtadlus – which you already are – your allotted income will flow to you, and taking a second, third or fourth job will not change anything. All it will do is lead to less Menuchas Hanefesh, especially as you classified this new “opportunity” as “working harder at a job I’m resentful at taking”. If you have extra time, or are looking to add activities to your life, there are plenty of Avodas Hashem options available that can fill your spare time that don’t include “working harder” and trying to amass money that has not been allotted for you, and is thus unattainable. ⁉️*Orchos Bitachon - Q&A for Wednesday, July 1, 2026*⁉️ *Q: I listen to your shiurim, and everything makes a lot of sense. However, I know myself, and I know that I am far from a Tzadik. There are a lot of areas in my life that need repair.* *My question is, if that is so, who said I am worthy of Hashem’s protection? Why would Hashem provide for my needs if I am not doing my part to keep the Torah as I should? Of course, I wish I was better, I am just being honest; I am not where I need to be. What are your thoughts?* A: First of all, the fact that you are listening to shiurim on Bitachon, and I am sure you are listening to other shiurei Torah as well, tells me that you are a Ben Aliyah, and you are trying to improve, and trying to grow. That in itself makes you a Tzadik. Of course, we all have to grow, and we all have to strive to improve and we all have to do teshuva, but the fact that you are not perfect doesn’t diminish you as a person, it just means you are human and you are subject to Nisyonos like all humans. Now, as far as your question… One of the Yetzer Hara's most devious tools to get us to not have Bitachon, is to try and convince us that we are unworthy of Hashem protecting us. He reminds us of all the sins we did, and all the reasons that Hashem should be uninterested in shielding us and allowing us to take refuge in Him. _"You should be ashamed of yourself for even entertaining the thought of having Hashem protect you!"_ says the conniving Yetzer Hara. _"You don't deserve it, and you know it!"_ he tells us. *NEWS FLASH:* THE LOUSY YETZER HARA IS DEAD WRONG. IGNORE HIM! DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM! Dovid Hamelech tells us (Tehilim 31) בְּךָ ה' חָסִיתִי אַל אֵבוֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָם בְּצִדְקָתְךָ פַלְּטֵנִי - In you, Hashem, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed; deliver me in your righteousness *אַל אֵבוֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָם*, NEVER be ashamed to rely on Hashem NEVER be ashamed to turn to Hashem! NEVER be ashamed to take refuge in Hashem! No matter what you may have done in the past, no matter what level you are on now, no matter what, Hashem ALWAYS wants us to turn to Him, to rely on Him, to trust Him! "But why?" you may ask. The short answer is that Hashem's having our back has little to do with us, and much to with HIM. The aforementioned Posuk ends with the words *בְּצִדְקָתְךָ פַלְּטֵנִי* - deliver me in your righteousness Hashem is our Father. We are His children. Parents take care of children. Not because the children deserve it. Not because the children earned it. Not because of anything other than they are their children. Children are not ashamed of relying on parents, even if their behavior is lacking. *בְּךָ ה' חָסִיתִי* is with no strings attached. Just because He is our Father. Remember, Bitachon is not about GETTING STUFF, it’s about GETTING CLOSE TO HASHEM. One who is a sinner and has things to improve in his life has EVEN MORE REASON to get close to Hashem than other people! Bitachon is for EVERYONE, especially for you! Stay strong. Stay the course. ⁉️ *Orchos Bitachon - Wednesday, July 29, 2026 - REAL Answers to REAL Questions submitted by REAL people, members of this group* ⁉️ *Q:What is the proper attitude to take if someone has a lot of money invested in stocks and he keeps losing money?* *How to stay positive and have Bitachon and how to relate to Hashem so as not to make things worse for himself but also to have his Mazel improve?* A: While it isn’t asur to invest in stocks or to have other investments, it is not something that one has to do. Saving money for later, on some level is a lack of Bitachon, as the Gemara Sotah 48b tells us: רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר הַגָּדוֹל אוֹמֵר כָּל מִי שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ פַּת בְּסַלּוֹ וְאוֹמֵר מָה אוֹכַל לְמָחָר אֵינוֹ אֶלָּא מִקְּטַנֵּי אֲמָנָה _Whoever has bread in his basket to eat today and says: What will I eat tomorrow, is deemed to be of those of little faith._ Just as the mann in the Midbar fell daily, so too, we must rely on Hashem each day to provide for that day, without worrying about tomorrow. Just as Hashem took care of you today, he will take care of you tomorrow as well. Many great Tzadikim lived this way, day to day, and didn’t have savings accounts, investment accounts, stocks, bonds, real estate etc. and they went through life, married off children etc. I am not telling you what you should or shouldn’t do, as that is something you need to discuss with your own Rav, however, if you see that your investments keep losing money, it may be a clear sign that you should not be in this game, and you should instead leave your future sustenance to the One who provided your past sustenance: Hashem. As far as remaining positive, that is something we must do under all circumstances! We must love Hashem, accept everything He does and thank Him for all situations He puts us in, regardless if we like it or not. We just read this last week, in Parshas V’Eschanan, and we say this a few times each day: וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת ה' אֱלֹהֶ-יךָ בְּכָל לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל נַפְשְׁךָ וּבְכָל מְאֹדֶךָ וּבְכָל מְאֹדֶךָ means we need to love Hashem with all our money – whether He increases it or decreases it, and it also means we must love Hashem in any situation that He sends our way. A third understanding of וּבְכָל מְאֹדֶךָ, based on the Chida’s understanding of the Sefer Chasidim Siman 123, is that we must love Hashem even in situations that would cause other people to become despondent – we may never be despondent! We are obligated to remain positive at all times!
