Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir
Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel zt"l (1943–2011) was the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir in Jerusalem, one of the largest and most influential yeshivos in the world. American-born, raised in Chicago, he came to the Mir as a young man and rose to lead it, ultimately overseeing a yeshiva of thousands of talmidim.
Under his leadership the Mir grew to extraordinary size, and with growth came the immense burden of sustaining it. He carried the responsibility for the yeshiva and its talmidim with a devotion that became legendary in the Torah world.
Greatness through mesirus nefesh
Much of what made Rav Nosson Tzvi so revered was the mesirus nefesh with which he led. For decades he contended with Parkinson's disease, and the sight of him pressing on to teach and to build despite great physical difficulty left a deep impression on all who witnessed it.
He was equally known for his personal warmth and his care for each individual talmid. In a yeshiva of thousands, he was remembered for making the single student feel seen — a leadership rooted not in distance but in genuine love for those he taught.
A few preserved talks
Only a small number of his recorded talks are gathered here, but even a handful offers a window into his hashkafa and mussar. His teachings tended to point toward growth, perseverance, and the seriousness of a life given over to Torah.
For a listener, these preserved talks are a way to draw near to a figure whose life itself was a lesson. What he taught in words was reinforced by how he lived, which is part of why even a limited collection carries real weight.
